Georgia Tech Alexander Memorial Coliseum

The first step in exploring better options and a better planning process was to create broad agreement on what the current operating constraints are, and what some of the most obvious unrealized potentials might be.  To that end, Future Cities and consultants, Georgia Tech facility operators, Athletics, facility planning and campus architects met on July 29 and 30, 2009 to discuss various methodologies to modernize the AMC and to identify its underutilized assets. The process was structured to identify existing and accumulating deficiencies, explore new opportunities, and then outline achievable goals.

Results of the workshop were outlined in a report and illustrated a hierarchy of interventions that would, if implemented, result in a modern collegiate arena with maximum fan comfort, greater operating efficiencies, and new and more profitable revenue opportunities. The new arena is currently under construction.
